When I started on my journey to get my life back together, to get my health on track and find my purpose I kind of took a slower than expected effort on the whole nutrition thing. Not going to lie, I love sugar. It's not that I crave it, or need it, I truly just love the taste of sugar. I can go without it, no problem, but I just enjoy it.
Sadly, my intake was seriously higher than a person should have and diabetes is no joke. So after my first week in my first group as a challenger I realized that eating gummy bears was not going to cut it. I had 10 pounds to lose and a serious mental change that was necessary. So....I dove in and started doing my research. I loved the 21 Day Fix and how it truly laid out everything you needed to know and do to improve your life.
Most importantly-the 21 Day Fix made eating healthier simple and easy. I thought I would be miserable and starving on this plan. I thought I would be skipping the carbs and eating celery... I could not have been more wrong. I eat carbs (every day yup), I get to have an occasional drink (yes alcohol) and there is even chocolate involved.....think I am crazy? Just keep reading!
The 21 Day Fix is based off of really cool colored portion control containers that you just fill and eat. So you take your veggies, fill the container, and boom you are done! It takes the need to count calories away which was super huge for me! I couldn't follow a food journal to save my life and this negated that need. The containers cover everything from carbs, to veggies, to fruits, proteins and healthy fats/oils. There is no need to skip any food groups on this plan. It's all about a healthy balance.
The nutritional guide is based off a team that did serious research and even has grocery lists for every container. The lists even tell you which foods have higher nutritional values than the others to help you achieve your results faster. The nutritional guide containers meal plans, recipes and even an awesome way to enjoy water and make it less boring!
The program comes with a calculation system that takes the thought out of how many containers you are supposed to eat so that if losing weight or toning up is your goal you are covered. Also, once you have reached your goals, there is another calculation plan that teaches you how to maintain your results without ever
being deprived.
My favorite part of the program is that it is realistic. It covers how to incorporate snacking into your routine so that you never feel like you are being starved or punished. I was able to have popcorn and chocolate covered raisins while stilling losing the weight. The program has cool recipes for snacks and even incorporates how to have a glass of wine in your evening.
This plan is meant for those that want to live a healthier lifestyle. It is not some quick fix diet that you are going to pop pills and lose 20 pounds in a week. That is not safe or healthy. My group teaches you about the importance of clean eating and consistent workouts not just for weight loss but to improve the quality of life you have. This program taught me everything I needed to know in the beginning when I started to make the change I needed to avoid diabetes.
