It took me a long time to realize how important my self worth truly was to my life. I used to spend so much time looking at other people, their lives, their jobs, their relationships and wish I had what they had. I used to wonder why I was not succeeding, why I was alone, why I was miserable. But I learned I had to STOP COMPARING MYSELF TO OTHERS. This seriously was ruining me. This was putting me in a darker place than any person should be.
More often then we think, what we see isn't truly their reality. That perfect relationship behind closed doors could be something far from perfect. That fancy car could have put that person into financial debt. Sometimes because society has us thinking that we need the best of everything, we buy things that we don't have the money for. We do things that we don't want or need to but other people are doing it so we do it.
Take time to love yourself and improve your self worth. When you really sit down, look at yourself, realize what you are grateful for, your quality of life will truly improve. Take these simple steps to better yourself today so that tomorrow you don't have to wish you were somewhere else.
1. Stop being so critical of yourself- when you are looking to improve your self-esteem you first have to start with YOU! First you have to handle that little voice inside yourself that tells you that you cannot do something. These are those little thoughts like "you are fat," "you are not good enough, "you are going to be alone forever." These little negative statements we keep to ourselves can be brutal to our self worth. You truly have to change the way you view yourself. Just say stop when you feel a negative thought approaching. Tell yourself YOU ARE NOT GOING THERE! Do not let your mind wander to that place.
2. Develop healthier motivational habits-To make yourself less critical, to lower that inner voice remind yourself of these simple steps to better yourself and your health:
- Write down your goals and the benefits of living a better quality of life. Think that if you do get that promotion at work where the benefits for your life will come from. Think of how great the extra money would be for your debt, or the new time you could take off. Instantly you smile because your life will truly improve.
- Focus on what you want for your life- Ask yourself where you want to be in a year, five years, ten years and decide this solely for you. If you want to move to a new state, do it for you. If you want to quit your job and go a completely different route then do it! Do not let what others say or your fear of failure stop you from living the life you deserve.
3. Handle mistakes and failures in a more positive way-When you fail at life, instead of crying, instead of beating yourself up, instead of going into a depression, find the positive in failure. Those who fail forward succeed. Go out of your comfort zone to truly achieve what is meaningful to you. Be your own best friend instead of going to others, instead of beating yourself up and sharing it with the world. Ask yourself how would a friend or parent support you in this situation? Then do or say the things you know they would. This will keep you falling into a pit of despair.
