Work For It Wednesday: What To Eat Before A Workout

Are you thinking that your pre-workout routine could use some help? Looking for things to add to your daily intake pre-workout to improve your recovery and results? Check out some of these awesome snacks that can really help improve your workout!

1. Oats: Oats are packed with fiber which assists in releasing carbohydrates steadily into your system. Thus supplying you with a steady amount of energy for your workout.

2. Bananas: Bananas have fast acting carbohydrates that provide fuel for your workout in those moments where you are pushing harder. Also, potassium has benefits to assist in muscle and nerve function. Potassium plays an important role in muscle flexibility.

3. Shakes and Smoothies: The right shake can assist in so many ways giving you the long term energy to get you through your workout while promoting regularity in your day. I always drink Shakeology in the mornings- it gives me energy not only to recovery from my workout but keeps me from craving the sweet stuff later.

4. Egg Whites: Egg white yolks are great for a pre-workout option because the fat in egg yolks takes time to metabolize and thus causing bloating. One egg white has 4 grams of protein AND no fat!

5. Greek Yogurt: Greek yogurt has DOUBLE the protein that regular yogurt has AND half as much sugar. This can be an awesome source of energy while being easy on the stomach (unless you are lactose intolerant).

When you are looking to improve your nutrition to achieve better results, when you are looking to make gains in strength, to lose weight, it always comes down to moderation. Take time to plan your meals, to think before you snack, to really ask yourself will this benefit my body and help my achieve my goals.

Every Sunday I set a meal plan, I take that meal plan and go grocery shopping right from it that way I am less tempted to eat things I don't need that have no value. Our bodies are our machines, it is what enables us to achieve our goals, to live our lives the way we want to. But we must treat our body well. We must nourish it, give it rest when it is fatigued and participate in activities that are beneficial to our health and mental well being. Take time every week to think before you reach. This not only will leave you feeling better, it will save you money and time.
